Walter Carl “Dub” Caffey Jr.

Walter Carl “Dub” Caffey Jr., 88, died June 12, 2011, after a 10-year illness. He was born in Post on Oct. 16, 1922, to Walter Sr. and Emma L. (Hawthorne) Caffey.
He graduated from Post High School in May 1942 and married the love of his life, Marjorie Pettigrew, on Aug. 9, 1942. They were high school sweethearts. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II from Oct. 22, 1942, to Dec. 3, 1945. He received his honorable discharge at Denver Air Base in Denver.
He was church deacon and taught Sunday school during his many years of church stewardship. The one duty he loved the most as a steward of the church was carrying chairs for church guests or cleaning the floor.
He loved to fish and spent many cherished moments on the bank of a river fishing with his bride of many years. He also loved to sell. He worked more than 50 years in sales.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marjorie; son-in-law Herb Germer of Granite Shoals; grandson Jon Germer and wife Abbie of Dallas; granddaughter Erin K. Germer of Dallas; great-granddaughters Trinity and Kamryn Germer of Dallas; niece Janice Mire and husband Rodney of Gulfport, Miss.; nephews Danny Hill of Newark Ohio, and Tom Caffey of Tennessee; sister-in-law Katherine “Boo” Caffey; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sammie Kay Germer; parents; sister Inez Hartel and husband C.H.; brothers Harold Caffey and Gerald Caffey; sister-in-law Wilma Hill and husband Ennis; and nephews Garry and Robbie Hill.
A service is 10 a.m. June 18 at Granite Mesa Health Center, 1401 Max Copeland Drive in Marble Falls. Interment will be held at a later date at Terrace Cemetery in Post.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
