BUDA — The Marble Falls bronco all-star baseball team won the Hays Sandlot Tournament June 10-12.

Marble Falls defeated the San Marcos Rattlers 13-8 in the championship game for the 12-and-under league June 12.

The pitching staff included T.J. Stephenson, Lane Travis, Kenny Ulbricht, Dylan Petrosky and Trey Rodriguez.

Marble Falls scored 38 runs in three games.

“We hit the ball well this weekend,” manager Don Petrosky said.

Marble Falls began the tournament by drumming Hays 16 -7 on June 10 and San Marcos 9-3 on June 11, allowing the team to rest for the championship game June 12.

“San Marcos made it through the losers bracket to play us (June 12),” Petrosky said.  “Trey pitched the first two innings … with Kenny closing the game, pitching the last five innings.”

A solid showing in a Director’s Cup warm-up tournament a week earlier showed the manager the team was on track, he said.

Marble Falls finished second in the event.

“Going 2-for-3 is not bad,” he said. “The first two games, they hit the ball well. Our pitching was solid. They played together very well.”

Other players include Seth Carpenter, Heath Dooley, Clayton Griffin, Preston Richardson, Jeff Raney, Cooper Wilson and Bryce Murphy.

Before practice started three weeks ago, the manager said he believed this age group had a chance at doing well.

“We blew them out of the water,” he said. “They’re pretty solid. I’m pretty pleased with them so far.”

The only loss was to a select team out of the Buda area.

“They hit the ball well, they hit the gaps,” Petrosky said. “And we didn’t. Their hitting was on fire.”

The sectional tournament is June 27 in Marble Falls.
