Mustang all-stars’ love of game helps team prosper

MARBLE FALLS — A common denominator, other than age, exists for the Mustang all-star baseball team of the Marble Falls Youth Baseball and Softball Association, manager Roman Zamarippa said.

“Overall love for the game,” he said. “There’s not really a huge standout. Everybody is about the same, talent-wise.”

That’s huge, he said, because it has brought the team closer to a common goal: performing well in the playoffs.

Athletes on the team for players 10 years and younger include Tyler Carmack, Zachary Fearn, Ty McBride, Luke Nail, Hunter Rodgers, Carter Schwope, Michael Vazquez, Jack Zamarippa, Sean Curtis, Joshua Handley and Hayden Young.

The team has been practicing for two weeks, he said. Zamarippa said what has pleased him so much is the players’ work ethic.

“They won’t quit,” he said. “They want to practice every day. A lot of kids have video games and television on their minds, and these kids want to stay out there in 100-degree heat.”

The practices have been solid, he said, adding the athletes prepare well, even in drills.

“They want to compete so hard, they’ll do it against each other,” he said.

He also has been pleased with the support from parents, noting they have cheered on the players during practices and haven’t hesitated in helping when needed.

Because Marble Falls is hosting the sectional tournament, the team earned a bye for the event that starts June 27. But coaches decided it would be best to play a warm-up tournament starting June 10.
