Jack W. Kirkland

Jack W. Kirkland, 74, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Kingsland, died May 26, 2011. He was born in Whitney on June 29, 1936, to Cecil L. and Maxine L. Kirkland.
He graduated from Seminole High School in 1954 and attended Texas Tech University. He married Lee Snider on April 18, 1958, in Ropesville.
He was a music leader at Fellowship Baptist Church in Hockley County. He taught various Sunday school classes for 35 years, was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Levelland in 1976, sang in Sanctuary Choir at First Baptist Church in Levelland and Kingsland and served on various church committees.
He was a farmer in Levelland for 25 years. He retired to the Hill Country and worked another 27 years with various jobs. In September 2009, he retired and moved to Fredericksburg.
Survivors include his wife 53 years Margie L. Kirkland of Fredericksburg; children Jerry L. Kirkland and wife Marianne of Amarillo, Kathy A. Kirkland Bryant and husband Bear of San Marcos and Donna Kirkland Staudt and husband Carlos of Fredericksburg; grandchildren Amber E. Bryant Murken and husband Andrew and Dustin R. Bryant and wife Rochelle, all of San Marcos, Kyle D. Kirkland and Cory A. Kirkland, both of Amarillo; great-grandchildren Tyler J. Murken and Ryleigh Ann Murken; brothers Melvin L. Kirkland, Kenneth W. Kirkland and wife Charlie, Eddie J. Kirkland, Larry D. Kirkland and wife Linda and Danny R. Kirkland.
A service was May 28 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008.
