Charles William Axtell
Charles William Axtell, 66, of Marble Falls and formerly of Dimmitt, died April 23, 2011, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Amherst on June 29, 1944, to Ray and Mattie Jordan Axtell.
He graduated from Springlake High School and attended West Texas A&M University. He graduated from Texas Tech University.
He married Diane Field on Jan. 27, 1968.
He served with the 25th Infantry in Vietnam in 1968-1969. He farmed and ranched in the Texas Panhandle near Sunnyside for more than 30 years. In 2006, he and his wife retired and moved to Marble Falls to be near their son Paul and his family.
He walked the Christian walk in how he lived his life as well as through Stephen Ministry, singing in the First United Methodist choir, directing the choir in Dimmitt and singing at area nursing homes. He always will be remembered for his kindness and patience. He brought ingenuity and commitment to everything he did.
He loved fishing with his grandkids and his fishing buddy Richard Stewart. He also loved traveling, working on projects and always lending a hand to family and friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter Holly Meurisse and husband Mark of Sydney; son Paul Axtell and wife Kris of Johnson City; grandchildren Nathan, John, Michael and Daniel Axtell; and sister-in-law Carol Dahlstrom and husband Roger.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A service is 2 p.m. April 27 at First United Methodist Church, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive in Marble Falls. Another service will be later in Dimmitt.
