June LaFleur Watkins, 89, of Llano died Feb. 14, 2011. She was born in Kinder, La., on July 29, 1921, to Charles and Emma (Rhymes) LaFleur.

She graduated from high school at 16 and then completed Stephen’s School in Columbia, Mo. She graduated from Louisiana State University, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.

Houston later became her home, where for 19 years she was the secretary to the vice president of Humble Oil Co. The Humble Club named her 1951 chairman of their style show luncheons. There she met her husband John Lester “Jack” Watkins Jr., and they married Jan. 29, 1960. They eventually came to Llano to take over the Watkins Oil Co. (Texaco Distributorship).

She was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and was the Memorial Fund chairwoman there for more than 40 years. She also served as treasurer.

She was a member of the Daughters of the King, president of Junior Women’s Culture Club and a member of the Highland Lakes Republican Women.

Survivors include her daughter Lisa Watkins Miiller and husband Bryan of Llano; and grandchildren Lauren and Trevor Parker, both of Llano; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003.

A service was Feb. 20 at Grace Episcopal Church in Llano with the Rev. Phil Mason officiating.
