William F. “Bill” Taylor

William F. “Bill” Taylor, 83, of Burnet died Feb. 14, 2011. He was born Sept. 2 1927, to Ellis and Susie (McFarlin) Taylor of Bertram.
He spent his early childhood in Bertram and Joppa, graduating from Bertram High School in 1944. He served two years in the Navy before attending Sul Ross State University. On July 3, 1948, he married Rita Christelle Johnson.
After starting a family, they moved from Big Spring to Odessa in 1962. He spent more than 25 years with the State Comptrollers Office. After retirement, he established his own sales tax consulting business for several years. The couple moved to Burnet in 1990, where they enjoyed family, friends and grandchildren.
His passions in life were playing golf and hunting. He had many good friends whom he enjoyed spending time with, including his neighbor of many years who was by his side until the very end.
Survivors include his children William J. “Billy” Taylor and wife Jackie of Montgomery, Elaine Cagle of Burnet and Joe Tom Taylor and wife Judy of Burnet; brother Gen. James W. Taylor of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years on Feb. 6, 2011; his parents; and brother Ellis Taylor Jr.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
A graveside service is 10 a.m. Feb. 19 at Bear Creek Cemetery, FM 243 in Bertram, with the Rev. Ryan Schmidt officiating. Pallbearers are Rod Barns, Jerry Hamilton, Bennie Taylor, Steve Taylor and Austin Rose.
