Benjamin Ray Ham, 28, died Feb. 15, 2011, at his Smithwick home after a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 2, 1983, to Steven and Theresa Ham in Burnet. He attended Burnet schools where he was on the swim team and ran cross country. He spent one year in Spain as a foreign exchange student.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his family and friends.

He graduated from Burnet High School in 2001, and graduated magna cum laude from Texas State University in 2004.

He was a loving son and brother, and a great friend.

On Dec. 29, 2010, he married Kasey Lane Brooks in Big Bend.  He was a strong, honest, and loyal husband. During their short marriage, they enjoyed hiking, gardening and camping.

He never complained and was always thoughtful of others, even during his treatments.

In addition to his wife, survivors include father Steven Ham; brothers Joshua Ham and wife Renee and their son John Robert of Killeen, and Andrew Ham and Thomas Ham and wife Chelsi, all of Katy; and grandmothers Ruby Mohan and Wanda Ham, both of Burnet.

He was preceded in death by his mother Nov. 7, 2010.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at Phillip and Teresa Pring’s Ranch, located five miles north of Burnet at 5620 U.S. 281 North.
