Leon Pharr, 96, of Kingsland and formerly of Lubbock, died Jan. 25, 2011, in Kingsland. He was born March 19, 1914, in Enterprise, Okla., to John Virgil and Carrie Mae (Noblett) Pharr.

He married Marjorie Sullivan on June 2, 1934, in Lubbock. They spent their early years in the Texas Panhandle farming, ranching and raising two daughters. He was a skilled carpenter who built many homes in the Lubbock area.

During World War II, they moved to California, where he worked in the shipyards. He later returned to Lubbock and continued building homes for many years. He moved to Kingsland in 1963 and began Pharr Plumbing Co. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He loved hunting and fishing and made many trips to his favorite hunting grounds in Colorado. He passed his love of the outdoors to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who went with him on many hunting trips.

Survivors include sister Grace Schell of Ukiah, Calif.; daughters Patsy Arnold of Lubbock and Gloria Daghlian of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Tina Brown and husband Barry, Tracy Nichols, and Joe Yelvington and wife Rita, all of Lubbock, Toni Perez of Niceville, Fla., John Yelvington and wife Shelley, Mark Stephenson and wife Kathy and Bruce Stephenson and wife Melinda, all of Kingsland, and Joe Long and wife Beth of Llano; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dec. 31, 1998; granddaughter Denise Stephenson; great-great-grandson Ayden Stephenson; six brothers; and five sisters.

A graveside service was Jan. 27 at the City of Llano Cemetery.
