Lanny Boyce Young Sr.
Lanny Boyce Young Sr., 70, of Kingsland died Dec. 14, 2010. He was born to Boyce F. and Freddie Lou Kimmey Young on Jan. 30, 1940, in Lufkin.
He married Billie J. Trombatore Oct. 28, 1961, in Houston.
He was a regular at Danny’s Diner for coffee. He raced go-carts and was the national champion in 1961. He was featured in several go-cart magazines.
He raced stock cars and was named mechanic of the year when he raced in the early 1960s. He loved speed and also raced jet boats, with countless trophies for all his sports.
He had different service stations in Houston before moving to the Hill Country in 1981, where he designed and built his home in Sunrise Beach.
He restored motor homes and was a member of the GMC Classics Motor Home Club. He remodeled the Kingsland Texaco and added the auto service center in 1983. He also built Lanny’s Lube in 1993 in Kingsland, which is now Kingsland Tire & Oil. He loved to build things, help people in various ways and was known by his trademark red suspenders.
In addition to his wife of Kingsland, survivors include children Lanny and wife Brenda Young, and Stacy and husband Mark Chapman, all of Kingsland; grandchildren Whitney Young, Nicholas and wife Bonnie Chapman and Stacia and Samantha Chapman; and great-granddaughter Catharine Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Dec. 18 at the First Assembly of God Church, 96 Main St. in Marble Falls, with the reverends Bob Weis and Jim Coursey officiating.
