JL “Dave” Davee, 84, of Kingsland died Dec. 13, 2010, at the Kerrville Veterans Administration Hospital in Kerrville after a long illness.

 

He was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Brady, the son of Jess and Bartie (Morris) Davee.

 

 

He married Rose Weilert Grimes in 1970 in Lampasas County, shortly after retiring from the Army.

During World War II, he served in the European Theater. He also saw combat during the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1970 as a staff sergeant.

He and his wife purchased Fuzzy’s Corner near Buchanan Dam and successfully ran it until 1983 when they both retired.

He served three years as commander of the Kingsland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10428 in the early 1970s. He remained an active member until his illness. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter.

Survivors include daughters Jeannine Morgenstern and husband Carl of Caliente, Nev., and Lana Remmes and husband Arthur of Plainfield, N.H.; longtime family friend George Allison, wife Barbara and children Kimberly Jo  and Shelly Renee of Early; grandson Maj. Gabe Barton of Pinehurst, N.C.; great-grandsons Ryon and Andrew Barton, both of Pinehurst; nieces Glenda Hibbler of Fredericksburg and Judy Jones of Atlanta; and nephew Garry Rippy of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister Velma Rippy of Dripping Springs; brother Raymond Davee of Ozona; and infant son Jimmy Lane Davee.

Graveside services were Dec. 16 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.
