Jesse Houston Rhoden Jr.

Jesse H. Rhoden, 91, died Nov. 29, 2010, in Burnet.
He was born in Crockett Sept. 26, 1919, to Jesse and Mattie Rhoden.
He was raised in Winters, Odessa and Midland and attended the University of Texas. He joined the Army in 1941 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in the South Pacific with the 71st Reconnaissance Group flying P-39 Airacobras in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He married Winifred Gordon in 1945 and entered the feed and mohair business in Lampasas.
In 1957, the family moved to Burnet where he constructed the Rhoden Feed Mill, a fixture on Texas 29 East for more than 40 years. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burnet.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter Elizabeth Nichols and husband Cranz of Burnet; grandson Lt. Col. Tom Hairgrove and wife Marina; and great-grandchildren Gavin, Erika and Miranda of Manhattan, Kan.

A service is 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. Interment follows at Post Mountain Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Tom Hairgrove, Gavin Hairgrove, Laddie Macha, Mark Gordon, Walter Scott and Cranz Nichols.
