MARBLE FALLS – A stretch of road built for nearly $2 million west of the city to alleviate traffic woes debuts Friday.

Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation and Marble Falls will cut the ribbon on the newly completed project on RR 1431 West at 10 a.m.

They will gather at the roadside park just west of Slaughter Mountain Road.

The stretch of road is from Industrial Boulevard to the west city limits.

Work on the $1.9 million undertaking began in September 2009.

TxDOT constructed a one-mile long continuous left-turn lane to increase the safety of motorists turning into the businesses and side streets, officials said.

About 16,000 vehicles a day travel this portion of 1431.

The city also participated in the project by purchasing $350,000 of the needed right of way.
