Artist Laura Evelyn Howell, 80, died Oct. 20, 2010, at the age of 80.

She was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Blum but later moved to Indiana where she eventually married and had children.

In 1966, she brought her family to Burnet, where she has lived ever since.

It was there that she took up the profession of art. She studied architectural design and commercial art. However, she became well-known for her landscapes in oil, particularly her bluebonnets.

She taught art in the home, performed workshops all over Texas and was highly active in Burnet. She helped and sponsored many organizations such as the Girl Scouts and was also named “artist of the month” numerous times by the Buchanan Arts and Crafts Club.
She sold paintings across Texas, in many states and overseas.

She made her mark on life with her brushes, a palette, her heart and God by her side. She was loved by many and truly will be missed.

Survivors include husband Lee Howell of Burnet; children Laura Dougherty, Mike Sopp, Steve Sopp, Patricia Morgan and Linda Wiggins; grandchildren George Grimsley, Laura Juarez, Robert Marx, Jennifer McDuff, David Marx, Crissy Sopp and Steven Sopp; great-grandchildren Isabella Juarez, Ethaniel Juarez, Rian Marie Sopp, Clayton Lane Sopp and Riley Kaitlynn McDuff.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Oct. 23 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444.

A service is 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the funeral home. Burial follows at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet County on Park Road 4.
