Tommy Joe Yates, 81, of Kingsland died Oct. 13, 2010. He was born April 23, 1929, in Temple to Lillian (McCoury) and Mack Yates.

He married Jane (Fowler) Yates Aug. 31, 1948, in Llano.

He was a rancher and lifetime resident of San Saba and Llano counties. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Llano and attended Kingsland Community Church.

Survivors include son Ronnie Yates and wife Glena of Horseshoe Bay;  grandchildren Ron Yates of Austin and Kara Y. Dudley and husband James of Horseshoe Bay; nephew the Rev. W.Y. “Bill” Fowler IV of Austin; and companion Janet Herrington of Kingsland.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sept. 18, 1996.

A graveside service is 3 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Llano City Cemetery with the reverends Tommie Beck and Fowler officiating.

Honorary pallbearers include Alvin Hay, Trey Wilson, Mark Stephenson, Paul Broyles, Nathan Garrett and Ed Auler.
