Roy Welch

Roy Welch, 62, of Valley Mills died Sept. 25, 2010. He was born in Llano June 5, 1948, to Jesse Welch Sr. and Genie (Lockhart) Welch.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he was a very caring man and a people person who enjoyed being with his family and friends.
He worked for many years for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and served as director for Region 2.
After he retired from the state, he worked as a plant operations manager for the Admiral Nimitz Museum, also known as the National Museum of the Pacific War, in Fredericksburg.
He was a member of Patton Baptist Church near Valley Mills.
Survivors include his wife Debby Welch of Valley Mills; son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Cheronda Welch of Martindale; daughter and son-in-law Erin and Nathan Ellison of San Marcos; father; brother Jesse Welch Jr. of Burnet; sister Eva Charlotte Schwartz and husband Mike of Muldoon; stepson Jimmy Don Holmes and wife Lori of Crawford; stepdaughters Holly Mathis and husband Elton of Hempstead and Leah Hodges and husband Derek of Temple; five grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Valerie Annette (Roten) Welch; his mother; and sister-in-law Doris Welch.
Pallbearers include Justin Transeau, Trey Schwartz, Ryan Welch, Nathan Ellison, Corey Roten and Paul Roten.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobbie Solame, Bobbie Ficke and The Crew at Parks and Wildlife.
A funeral service is 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Clements-Wilcox Chapel, 306 Texas 29 in Burnet, (512) 756-2222, with the reverends Pat Cummings and Craig Godby officiating.
Military honors and interment will follow at the Post Mountain Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
