Johnie F. Schmitt
Johnie F. Schmitt, 97, of Kerrville and formerly of Burnet, died Sept. 25 in Kerrville. He was born to Otto and Lena Benzner Schmitt on Feb. 22, 1913, in Lindsey, one of nine children.
He was a very faithful member of the Catholic church. He was a great example of the life of a Christian to all who knew him and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1938.
He loved the outdoors and working in the soil to produce what his friends and family called, “The best tomatoes ever to put in your mouth”.
Survivors include his son Lonnie Schmitt and wife Gail of Houston; daughter Sandra Schmitt of Hunt; grandchildren Timothy Schmitt and wife Mary Anne, Thomas Schmitt and wife Michele, and Paul Schmitt; great-grandchildren Kathryn, Elisa, Sarah and Chandler; and sister Wallie Buck of Denton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; two brothers; and six sisters.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444.
A service is 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 507 Buchanan Drive in Burnet.
