Charles ‘Chuck’ Cary

Charles "Chuck" Cary, 86, of Meadowlakes died after a lengthy illness Aug. 19, 2010, in Austin.
He was born in Coldwater, Mich., on Dec. 20, 1923.
He graduated from Coldwater High School and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He then joined the Army and was assigned to a combat infantry Intelligence section in the European Theater for four years during World War II.
He served under Gen. George S. Patton.
He was then a scholar at Cambridge University, England, and later returned to Miami University, where he graduated in 1948.
He attended Stanford University and Pennsylvania State University, where he earned his master’s degree.
After that, he spent 32 years with Union Oil Co. of California — now Chevron — as a geologist. He worked in California, New Mexico, Texas and was a chief geologist in Southeast Asia, residing in Indonesia for four years.
He was vice president and general manager of Latin America offshore operations in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He retired from Union Oil Co. in 1982 and moved to Meadowlakes to live and play golf. He was proud of his record of six holes-in-one, four of those in Meadowlakes.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia. He married Patsy Stone in 1993, and she was by his side until his death.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son Mark Cary; daughter Lu Anne Kitiri; stepchildren Wesley Stone and Lori Flores; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Aug. 25 at First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, 501 Twelfth St.
