Richard William Rogers Jr., 87, died Aug. 4, 2010. He was born March 27, 1923.

He attended the University of Texas and Texas Christian University, hoping to be a journalist. He served as a meteorologist in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific.

After working many years for the Parker Pen Co., he formed his own company, The Texas Pen Company.

He was a golfer, a better tennis player and an all-round sports fan, enjoying those sports at Rivercrest Country Club in Fort Worth, then the Houston Racquet Club in Houston and later at the Horseshoe Bay Resort.

He had and appreciated a good sense of humor; he was generous and a good friend.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jean Curl Rogers; and family Margaret and Richard W. Rogers III, Betsy and Richard IV; Carolyn Rogers and Frank Sayre, George, Murphy and Roger; Carolyn and Jeffrey Rogers, Jeffrey Jr., Tony Rogers and Blair Davis, and Alexander.

A memorial service is 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at Trinity Episcopal Church, RR 1431 at Avenue D in Marble Falls, with the Rev. Pete Christy officiating.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
