John Chandler Bradford, 77, of Kingsland died June 23, 2010. He was born to Lyman Chandler and Beryl (Wilks) Bradford on Sept. 16, 1932, in Biloxi, Miss.

He served in the Navy. He married Mary Carroll Pote on Feb. 21, 1957, in San Antonio. They settled in Alpine and the Big Bend area where he spent most of his life.

He was active in the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department, past-president of the Permian Basin Volunteer Firefighters Association, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion in Alpine and Kingsland, and a member of the Highland Lakes United Methodist Church.  He loved photography, the great outdoors and camping around Big Bend.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, survivors include children John Carroll Bradford and wife Michele of Austin, Zelda Fabian and husband Wayne of Monahans and James Bradford and wife Malinda of Del Valle; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Fred Ray Bradford of St. Louis; and sister Sue B. Anthony of Odessa.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. June 26 at the Putnam Funeral Home chapel, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008, with the Rev. Grady Roe officiating.  A graveside service is 10:30 a.m. July 2 in Alpine at Elm Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Edward Jennings officiating.
