Herman Richard Bergman Jr., 87, died June 13, 2010, in Marble Falls. He was born April 22, 1923, in Johnson City, to Herman Richard Bergman Sr. and Meta Ann (Hitzfeld) Bergman.

He was the youngest of 10 children. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.

He married Dorothy Edwards Wuneburger on Dec. 26, 1942. They were married 57 years prior to her death in 2000.

He was drafted into the Army in January 1943 and served in the American Theater Campaign in Central Europe during World War II. He served as a guard patrolman in the infantry and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star. He also received a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.

After his discharge from the Army in January 1946, he began a 37-year career as a telephone repairman in Johnson City, then moved to Marble Falls in 1957. He retired from the General Telephone Co. in 1983. For several years he was the only telephone repairman in the Marble Falls area.

People knew they could call him at any hour of the day or night if they had phone problems, and he would do his best to take care of them.

Survivors include his sons Richard and wife Gay, Dale and wife Angie, Chris and wife Debra and Philip and wife Doretha of Marble Falls; daughter Dorothy Ann Curtis and husband Mike of Austin; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Bernice Casparis of Johnson City; sister-in-law Mildred Bergman of Bandera; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is 11 a.m. June 15 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373 with the Rev. Max Copeland officiating. Interment will follow at the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.
