Marvin S. Light, 80, of Burnet died May 30, 2010, after an extended illness.  He was born in the Six Mile community of Llano County on Feb. 7, 1930, to Frank Light and Mary Alice (Moss) Light.

Except for a short time in the military and work in West Texas oil fields as a welder, he was a lifelong resident of Llano and Burnet counties.

He was a boat and outboard motor repairman who owned and operated Marvin’s Marine in Burnet for many years. After his retirement in 1978 he continued to work from his backyard for friends and old customers.  He was well known in Council Creek Village, where he volunteered his time to help with the maintenance and upkeep of the roads.

He enjoyed fishing and being with his friends.

He was a charter member of the Burnet Lions Club in 1974. He held many positions and was a deputy district governor, helping establish clubs in Bertram, Marble Falls and a 21-county area. He was passionate about his service in the Lions Club and their work raising funds for eyeglasses for handicapped and underprivileged children.

Survivors include his wife Virginia (Davis) Light of Burnet; sons Mike Light of Cottonwood Shores and Frank Light of Burnet; daughter Susan Schaeffer of Burnet; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Laymon; sisters Frankie and Loraine; and great-grandson Zachary Creek.

A graveside service and inurnment is 10 a.m. June 5 at the Six Mile Cemetery near Llano.
