BURNET — In a one-sided shootout, Burnet High School’s softball team blasted the Vipers from Leander Vandegrift, 13-0, in the final District 8-3A road trip of the regular season recently.

Sophomore Courtnie Crouch and junior Savannah Erskine led the Lady Dawgs’ 11-hit attack in six innings to improve to a 6-1 district mark, 18-7 overall.

“Courtnie and Savannah continue to lead us at the plate, going five for eight in the game and knocking in five runs,” said Lady Dawgs head coach Amanda Carpenter.

Crouch came up with two singles, two RBIs, scored two runs and had three steals, while Erskine accounted for two singles, a double, three RBIs and one steal.

Other Burnet players contributing at the plate were senior Kerstyn Towslee with a single and sophomore Kati Maldonado with a single, two runs scored and two steals.

Sophomore Hillary Foster recorded a double and had one RBI, a run and two steals, while junior Ashten Huddleston provided a single, two runs and a steal.

Senior Darcy Jacoby and sophomore Allison Eaton both had a single and scored one and two runs, respectively. Eaton also was credited with a steal.

Sophomore Samantha Lawrence scored two runs and recorded two steals, and junior Aimee Clendennen had one RBI and scored a run.

Sophomore pitcher Kristen Spinn went six innings in the circle for Burnet, striking out nine with only two walks.

“Kristen allowed only two hits, and no one reached second base after the first inning,” Carpenter said.
