Charles Ernest Phillips, 90, of Llano and formerly of Carlsbad, N.M., died April 24, 2010.

He was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Jollyville to Rowena Gertrude (Watts) and George Henry Phillips.

He married Ethel Bell (Cox) March 31, 1941, in Round Rock.

He was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge and was a member of the First Christian Church in Llano. He served in the Army in 1941 as a combat engineer. He was also a heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include daughters Geneva Estelle Cagle of Huntsville, Ala., Karen Ann Schubert of Chicago and Georgette Carley of Mineral Wells; sons Charles Ray Phillips of Belize, Arnold Lee Phillips of Carlsbad, N.M., and James Franklin Phillips of Leland, Fla.; sisters Ruth Phillips of Redland, Calif., Mary Phillips Bagshaw of New Holland and Laverne Phillips Bagshaw of Portland, Ore.; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. April 28 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano.

A funeral service is 10 a.m. April 29 at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Stacey Nobles officiating. Burial will follow at the Llano City Cemetery.
