Bertha L. Cozby, 92, died April 25, 2010. She was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Austin to Tobe and Hallie Ricks Richardson, who were both Austin natives.

She  lived in Austin, San Antonio and then Brownwood and graduated from school in 1934.

She married Stanley O. Cozby Sr. July 7, 1935, in Austin, and the couple remained together for nearly 50 years before his death in 1984.

The couple had their own business and were "rack  jobbers," selling and servicing  grocery items and pet supplies; they also sold and manufactured jeweled dog collars. The couple also secured notions and toys for grocery stores and drug chains.

The businesses covered a large territory, and the couple had lived in Dallas, Abilene, Arlington, Lubbock, Beaumont, Tyler and Lufkin, as well as two years in San Diego during World War II.

The couple sold the businesses and then had two bowling lanes in Dallas. Those too were sold, and her husband retired in 1979.

In 1990, the couple’s children moved to Marble Falls, Even before that, she had become very active in a "24 Hour Intercessory Prayer Ministry."

E. L. Gravin (mother of A.C. Garvin, longtime business administrator for Howard Payne University) led her to the Lord, and she then prayed for five years that her father would be saved. At age 15, she saw her father surrender his life to the Lord.

Survivors include her daughter La Nelle Cozby; sons Stanley O. Cozby Jr. and his wife Michele of Marble Falls, and Terry W. Cozby and wife Deborah of Dallas; grandsons Trey Cozby and wife Amy, Tyler Cozby and wife Candice, Tobe Cozby and wife Karol, and Tac Cozby and wife Allison; granddaughter Amber Maugham and husband Willie of  Fort Wainwright,  Alaska; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Edna Harrsell of Lometa, and her parents of Austin.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. April 28 at the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, 501 Twelfth St., with the Rev. Bill Grisham, of the First Baptist Church of Rocky Mountain, N.C., the Rev. Steve Peace and the Rev. Max Copeland officiating.
