BURNET — After two District 8-3A games, the Burnet High School baseball team is right where it wants to be.
The Bulldogs (16-5, 2-0 in district) beat Leander Vandegrift, 5-0, Thursday behind a complete pitching performance from senior John Melvin (4-0), who gave up three hits, struck 12, walked two batters and hit one with a pitch.

The defense did not record an error.
Offensively, Burnet scored two runs in the second, one in the third, fourth and sixth innings.
The Bulldogs recorded nine hits. Junior Emil Litterer, senior Travis Hoffmeister, sophomore Cash Conovan and junior Conner Fisher each picked up two hits.
As a team, the Bulldogs recorded a scorching .310 batting average with 4 RBIs for the contest and stranded six runners.
Now Burnet focuses on today’s showdown at Liberty Hill. First pitch will be at 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers, 1-1 in district, are coming off a convincing 12-2 win against Leander Rouse Thursday.
Their loss was to newcomer Vandegrift, 12-2, to start league play.
With one of the deepest pitching staffs in the district, the Bulldogs have several options including Hoffmeister (6-1) and Litterer (3-3-1).
