MARBLE FALLS — Faith Academy of Marble Falls recently honored several student athletes for their contributions to the athletic department during the fall and winter.

Coaches in District 6-2A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools released their all-district teams.

In basketball, senior post Brett Piatek was named to the first team. He is the first Flame in the program’s history to be named to the first team.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to it,” head coach and athletic director John Berkman said. “They all agreed Brett was highest performer. If you stop Brett early, they could stop our team. When Brett was in the game, he was a difference for us.

“If you’re good enough, people will know,” Berkman added. “Sometimes you have to remember people’s intangibles. Most of the time, if a player is good enough, they’ll remember.”

Junior post Randy Burton was named to the second team, while freshman guard Jason Byrd was honorable mention.

“Burton will be coming back as a senior,” the coach said. “He was really coming along well towards the end of the year. Jason being a freshman, to get anything is a big encouragement. That’s a good sign for us.”

The football team had several selections.

First team selections included junior tight end Zach McAnally, senior running back Will Shipp, junior defensive lineman Burton and senior safety Adrian Byrd.

Second team honorees were wide receiver Adrian Byrd, junior defensive lineman Dillon Robichaux, linebacker Shipp and senior cornerback Ryan Roberts.

Running back Jason Byrd was honorable mention.

“For our non-senior kids, that’s a good sign for years to come,” Berkman said. “We’ll be able to be successful and do well for years to come.”

Adrian Byrd was named to the second team all-state as a safety.

“His stats at safety were above and beyond everyone else in district,” Berkman said. “Coaches remembered him making plays. Those two were really the bright lights. Coaches responded to that.”

McAnally, Shipp and Burton were academic all-state selections. To qualify, players must be named first team all-district and maintain a 90 or above average for the semester; also, their statistics were compared to other players in TAPPS Class 2A across the state, Berkman said.
