Arthur B. Wood
Arthur B. Wood, 95, of Burnet died March 22, 2010. He was born in Slateington, Penn., to Ray and Ellen Bachman Wood Oct. 17, 1914.
He graduated from Rice University with a degree in electrical engineering and later became a geophysicist who worked 45 years for Shell Oil Co., retiring in 1978. During his employment with Shell he lived on two different continents and in four countries. More than 16 years were spent in South America alone. He also worked in Europe, Venezuela, Colombia and the Netherlands.
He loved to travel. He and his family toured most of Europe on weekends, holidays and vacations. He also traveled behind the Iron Curtain to Yugoslavia, Hungary and Czechoslovakia.
He loved genealogy and spoke often at the Burnet County Genealogical Society.
He was past president of the Rotary Club of Burnet, the past president and founder of the Hoover Valley Volunteer Fire Department and past president of the Gem and Mineral Club of Marble Falls.
He also served as an elder and board member of the First Christian Church in Burnet.
Survivors include his son Daniel B. Wood of Burnet County; daughter Beverly Wood of Fort Worth; sister Elaine Denny of Atlanta; brother-in-law Ross Buckner and his wife Chris of Bertram; sisters-in-law Willie Buckner of Burnet County, Katherine Buckner of Buffalo and Mary Bucker of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Eula, in September 2009.
A service is 10 a.m. March 26 at the First Christian Church, 204 E. Graves St. in Burnet, with the Rev. Dawn Rosignol officiating.
A burial will follow the service in Lakeland Hills Memorial Cemetery, Burnet.
The family requests that memorials to be made to the church, the Rice University Scholarship Fund or the Rotary Scholarship Fund.
