On Nov. 17, 2017, Austin police officer and Burnet County resident Jason Jewett (left) was returning home from work when he happened upon a ‘road rage’ incident on RR 1431 east of Marble Falls. Jewett was forced to exchange gunfire with a suspect, striking the man. The shooting, though justifiable, left Jewett struggling with a range of issues, even bringing back other traumatic experiences. He faced a choice: Get help or head toward self-destruction. He enlisted the help of Tania Glenn, a counselor in Cedar Park who works with police, first responders, and military. First responders often face higher levels of depression, mental health issues, and even suicide rates than the rest of the population.
