Engineers presented a design for the new Marble Falls High School baseball field to the Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees on Sept. 15. The field, along with fresh turf on the existing softball field, should be playable by the end of January 2026, if everything goes according to plan.
The new baseball field also will be turfed and accompanied by bleachers for up to 350 spectators, concession facilities, restrooms, locker rooms, batting cages, dugouts, bullpens, and offices for the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams.
While all of the work might not be finished by the time baseball and softball practices start in mid-January, the fields should be ready before the end of that month, just in time for the first interschool games in mid-February.
“There are certain elements that won’t be ready (by the start of the season),” said MFISD Superintendent Jeff Gasaway during the Board of Trustees meeting. “But it will be a very playable field.”
According to project engineer Pfluger Architects, a guaranteed maximum price for construction should be presented during the board’s next meeting on Oct. 20. As long as the project comes in under budget, contractors could break ground on the baseball field by Oct. 21.
Two small detention ponds will be included nearby to catch runoff rainwater that would otherwise flood the area surrounding the turf fields.
The baseball and softball fields are part of the long list of projects that received funding with the passing of the $172.2 million bond package in May. The baseball field was prioritized because it must be completed before work can begin on the school’s multi-purpose indoor sports training facility, which will be built partially on the site of the existing baseball field.
