Tuna recall affects products at HEB, Walmart

FEB. 11, 2025: Tri-Union Seafoods on Feb. 7 voluntarily recalled select lots of tuna products, including one carrying the H-E-B label, over fears a lid defect could lead to leakage or contamination.

According to a company announcement on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website:

“This voluntary recall is out of an abundance of caution following the notification from our supplier that the ‘easy open’ pull tab can lid on limited products encountered a manufacturing defect that may compromise the integrity of the product seal (especially over time), causing it to leak, or worse, be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.”

The specific H-E-B product is the H-E-B Solid White Tuna in Water, 5-ounce cans in a four-pack, with:

  • UPC 4122043345;
  • can codes S9FA 45K and S9FA 46K;
  • and a best-by date of 12/12/2027.

The recall also affects 5-ounce tuna products under the Genova label that are sold at H-E-B and Walmart stores in Texas.

If you have purchased a recalled product, return it to the retailer for a full refund or throw it away and contact Tri-Union Seafoods for a retrieval kit and a coupon for a replacement product. The company may be reached at support@thaiunionhelp.zendesk.com or 833-374-0171.
