The Pedernales Electric Cooperative is promoting National 811 Day on Friday, Aug. 11, to spread awareness about the importance of digging safely on private property.

Texas law requires calling 811 at least two business days before digging projects of 16 inches or deeper, whether installing a sprinkler system, planting, building, or fixing a fence.

In addition to electric lines, which can be dangerous if hit, water, sewage, telecommunication, and oil and gas lines also can be buried underground.

After calling 811, a professional will come and mark underground equipment with color-coded flags. The service is free. To learn more or submit a request online, visit texas811.org.
