Meet the Pilots on April 1 in Granite Shoals
Granite Shoals is hosting its first-ever Meet the Pilots event from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Bob Sylvester Airpark, 810 Mystic Drive. Local and visiting pilots will offer tours of their planes, the Marble Falls-based Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter and its crew will be on site, and Granite Shoals first responders will have their own earth-bound vehicles open for viewing and exploring.
One local pilot and six visiting volunteer pilots are expected to attend the event with their planes. Visitors of all ages can talk with the pilots, inspect their aircraft, sit in the pilot’s seat, and learn what it takes to fly.
“I think this is an opportunity to use our community asset, our airport, to have folks come out and see and feel an airplane up close,” said Granite Shoals Airport Advisory Committee President Steve Zbranek.
Zbranek and the committee planned the event to raise awareness of the value of the airpark and give residents a chance to learn more about the pilots and the planes that use it.
“I think that Meet the Pilots is a great community event,” said Granite Shoals mayoral candidate Kiel Arnone. “It’s for people of all ages. You don’t even have to live in Granite Shoals.”
Arnone helped wrangle several of the pilots for the event and invited the Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter crew. He praised the Airport Advisory Committee for its contributions to the airpark over the past year. The committee recently donated, installed, and painted a helipad for emergency use at the airpark.
