Young sluggers in the Marble Falls Youth Baseball/Softball Association are ready to knock it out of the park on opening day Saturday, March 25, at Childers Park, 1310 Broadway. Admission is free for fans.

Three games are scheduled on the first day of the season:

  • Rockies vs. Rangers at 11:30 a.m.
  • Braves vs. Diamondbacks at 12:45 p.m.
  • Blanco White vs. Astros at 2 p.m.

Before squads take the field, players will take part in team-building games at 9 a.m. Marble Falls High School varsity baseball players will assist the youngsters in finding coaches and teammates.

Teams will then gather in their designated spaces on the field for opening day ceremonies at about 10:15 a.m.

“The team-building games are going to be like field day games,” said association volunteer Ashley Crouse. “They’re just going to be fun games that don’t require baseball skills.”

Each team will be introduced along with its banner, which, for the first time, will travel with the squads throughout the season. League officials encourage coaches to hang banners on their dugouts before each game to proudly display their team pride.

While teams file into designated spots with banners flying, photographers will quickly grab team photos.

Goodie bags donated from local businesses will be dispersed to each team following the opening ceremonies. Donating businesses include Chevy Buick Marble Falls, Nelly’s Ice Cream, Chick-fil-A, Subway, Fresh and Fruiti, Lonestar Spirit, Ms. Lollipop, Mojo Coffee, and H-E-B. Bags will also contain a blue ticket for Dee’s Shaved Ice. Tickets redeemed are eligible for a baseball helmet snow cone.

“I asked those different businesses if they would contribute to the goodie bags for the kids, and everyone was more than happy to help,” Crouse said. “We have things like free ice cream at Ms. Lollipop’s, free cookie coupons, and really just a variety of different goodies.”

Once introductions are complete, organizers will queue the National Anthem and a member of the Marble Falls varsity team will throw out the first pitch to officially start the season.

Event officials encourage fans to arrive early to avoid congested parking.

“The city (of Marble Falls) recommends parking at the Marble Falls Senior Activity Center (618 Avenue L) for overflow parking,” Crouse said.

The city will provide concessions at the ballpark and Dee’s Shaved Ice will be on site.
