Two officers from the Horseshoe Bay Police Department were injured after responding to a domestic disturbance during the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 3. Both officers were transported to a hospital before being released later the same day.

After conducting interviews with witnesses, officers arrested 52-year-old Franklin P. Smith of Horseshoe Bay on two felony counts of aggravated assault on a public servant.

The event occurred after the Marble Falls Police Department received a call from a person claiming to have heard gunshots originating from her next-door neighbor’s property on Doe in Horseshoe Bay.

Horseshoe Bay patrol officers were dispatched to the scene. Officers say they heard yelling from inside the residence as they announced their presence at the scene.

A person from inside the home fired a shotgun out of the front window, striking one officer in the face. The other officer took pellet rounds to his vest and left arm.

No returning shots were fired by any of the officers.

Claire K. Smith, 40, and Franklin P. Smith, 52, both eventually exited the house before being detained by Horseshoe Bay police.

A search of the residence resulted in the recovery of a 20-gauge shotgun, the firearm believed to be the weapon used against the officers.

Franklin P. Smith is currently being held in the Burnet County Jail.

The Horseshoe Bay Police Department and Texas Rangers are continuing the investigation.
