Garcia, Hougen and Ort win in Granite Shoals election
Challenger Aaron Garcia defeated Place 2 Councilor Bruce Jones in one of the Granite Shoals City Council‘s three contested races May 7. Returning as councilors are Steve Hougen in Place 4 and Phil Ort in Place 6.
Garcia won with 294 votes to Jones’ 181. In the race between Hougen and Derrick Klotz, Hougen received 278 votes to Klotz’s 198. The margin narrowed in the Place 6 race. Ort defeated Kevin Flack 242 to 231, an 11-vote margin.
Votes will be canvassed on May 17, which means they will not be finalized in time to seat Garcia as a new member for the next City Council meeting, which is Tuesday, May 10. Garcia and the two returning incumbents will be sworn in for their two-year terms at the May 24 regular meeting.
