The Marble Falls City Council will swear in two new members and a returning incumbent during a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, May 16. Newly elected councilors Griff Morris, Place 1, and Lauren Haltom, Place 3, will take the oath of office along with incumbent William “Dee” Haddock, who ran unopposed. They will begin work the next day at the regular council meeting May 17.

Morris is no newcomer. He served three, two-year terms as mayor, but not consecutively. He was elected to the position in 1993, 1995, and again in 1999.

In his election for Place 1, he defeated Jim Postelle by 46 votes. The final count was Morris 200, Postelle 154.

The two candidates ran for a seat left open by Craig Magerkurth, who was not eligible to run for re-election because he had served his full term limits.

In Place 3, Lauren Haltom defeated incumbent Rene Rosales Sr. She received 229 votes to Rosales’ 106 votes.

Dee Haddock ran unopposed for Place 5 and will be sworn in to his second elected term. He was appointed to the position to fill Place 4 when it was left vacant by Rachel Austin-Cook in May 2017. That term ended in May 2018 when he ran for election, but for Place 3, leaving Place 4 open for another year. Celia Merrill was then appointed to the unexpired term in Place 4. Bryan Walker currently holds the Place 4 seat.
