BURNET — Burnet police on March 28 arrested a 55-year-old man on charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping.
According to a Burnet Police Department media release, the suspect, Danny Cude, allegedly broke into a apartment, where he found a woman and two children. The suspect allegedly had a knife, which he held to the woman’s neck at some point, and threatened to kill her and the children.
The man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman several times, according to police.
When police arrived at the scene, the woman and the two children were standing at the front door of the apartment with the suspect standing behind them. Burnet officers managed to talk the 55-year-old man down and arrest him without further incident.
“I am very proud of the officers on this call,” Burnet Police Chief Paul Nelson said. “They were able to keep the crime scene secured and gather important information on the case for investigators.”
The Texas Rangers are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Cude, who according to Burnet County Jail records is homeless, is a registered sex offender. According to Burnet County records, Cude was arrested in 1998 for attempted sexual assault in Llano County and later sentenced to seven years in prison.
According to Burnet County court records, Cude pleaded guilty in July 2015 for failing to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to six months in a state correctional facility.
He is being held in the Burnet County Jail on charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. If convicted, he faces up to 99 years in prison.
