BURNET — A judge sentenced a 40-year-old Burnet County woman to 35 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to killing her mother in April 2015.
Rhonda Gayle Carrell entered the plea July 12 in Burnet County District Judge Allan Garrett’s court for the murder of 63-year-old Pamela Ross.
Burnet County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered Ross’ body April 3, 2015, at a residence in the Inks Lake RV Park on Texas 29 west of Burnet. The deputies became aware of a possible issue after Johnson City police arrested Carrell overnight on April 2-3 for possibly driving under the influence. During this arrest, law enforcement officials became aware of a problem at the Burnet County residence and initiated a welfare check.
Upon arrival at the residence, described as a fifth-wheel trailer, deputies knocked on the door but didn’t get a response. When deputies looked through a window, they spotted what appeared to be a person lying on the floor.
Once deputies and first responders entered the residence, they determined the woman was dead.
An autopsy determined Ross died from strangulation, investigators stated at the time.
