Men ‘dress’ the part for Sunrise Beach VFD golf tourney
FROM STAFF REPORTS
SUNRISE BEACH — While the annual Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department Golf Tournament isn’t until April 18, organizers are giving men who want to participate a heads-up so they can get their dresses and skirts pressed and ready for the event.
OK, maybe organizers are really looking to line up more sponsors and golfers, but since the tournament lets men tee off from the ladies’ tee box at the No. 1 hole, some men like to “dress” the part.
The fifth annual tournament starts at noon at the Lighthouse Country Club, 118 Club Circle in Kingsland.
The event benefits the Sunrise Beach VFD and first responders. The unit serves the citizens of Sunrise Beach and the surrounding areas through mutual aid agreements. It’s a nonprofit organization that relies solely on donations and fundraisers to cover its operating expenses.
Sponsorships are available from $100 to $1,000. Businesses also may donate items for golfer gift bags.
The golfer entry fee of $75 per player covers a round of golf and a meal after the tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and men’s and women’s longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests.
