BURNET — Burnet is celebrating its citizens and businesses Feb. 7 during the 60th annual chamber banquet and awards presentation.
Anyone is welcome — you don’t have to be a member to attend — but those hoping to celebrate with the community would be wise to buy tickets early.
“We have not had tickets at the door the last two years,” said Kim Winkler, executive director of the Burnet Chamber of Commerce.
Tickets are $25 and include dinner of grilled quail with wild rice and bacon-wrapped New York strip steak. Call the Chamber at (512) 756-4297 or visit the office at 101 N. Pierce St. for more information on ticket availability.
The program features the chamber awards and the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District’s Hall of Honor recipients.
The nominees for the chamber’s awards this year are:
- Citizen of the Year: Darlene Denton, Doris Graeter, Eddie Snider
- Youth of the Year: Lauren Beckwith, Jason Edmondson, Jared McHazlett
- Senior Citizen of the Year: Leona Williams, Lottie McCorkle, Chick Wood
- Large Business of the Year: Oaks Nursing Home, SK Nelson, YMCA
- Small Business of the Year: Beautiful Reflections, Burnet Antique Mall, Gary Wideman State Farm
The banquet is at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson St. A social hour begins at 6 p.m., and dinner is scheduled for 7 p.m. The awards are at 8 p.m.
Winkler said the awards, especially after last year’s addition of the Burnet CISD awards, are a special moment.
“There are always a few touching moments at the banquet,” she said. “For our awards, they make people aware, and recognize the people who make contribution to our community, whether for their business or their unselfish hard work.”
