VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Marble Falls drops district match; Burnet Middle School sweeps Llano
MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team lost a District 25-5A contest to Georgetown High 8-25, 10-25, 13-25 on Sept. 16.
Lady Mustangs head coach Julie Downs noted the Lady Eagles leaned on their top players, who did not disappoint. Georgetown junior hitter Caroline Furrer had 13 kills, while junior setter Riane Pope and senior setter Lindsey Peak each had 15 assists.
“We knew Furrer was going to be a tough hitter,” Downs said. “We knew their setters were decent, and we knew they were explosive.”
And that combination puts a lot of pressure on defenses, she said. Added to that was the Lady Eagles’ precision of going down the line or cross court with their spikes.
Downs said the Lady Mustangs were left trying to figure out how to block and dig that accurate hitting because each time Marble Falls adjusted defensively, Georgetown had an answer.
“Either we have to dig inside or down the line,” she said. “The real problem was that our block was ineffective. Credit their hitters.”
Coaches knew the addition of Georgetown and Georgetown East View would make District 25-5A that much tougher.
“Our girls are learning and evolving with each game,” Downs said. “We will continue to work hard to perform well in this district season.”
