MARBLE FALLS — While the 11th annual Marble Falls Daybreak Rotary Skeet Shoot is still more than a month away, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

The event is 9 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Copperhead Creek Gun Club, 7030 RR 1431 East (in the Hidden Falls Adventure Park.) One of the first things you can do is register for the event.

And while it’s a skeet shoot, there’s a place for those who prefer pistols as the tactical pistol-shoot competition returns.

So you have a choice: You can sign up as an individual for the tactical-pistol shoot or for the five-person skeet shoot competition.

If you can’t decide, just register for both. After all, the funds the event generates go to a list of working causes, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, the Highland Lakes Legacy Fund, the Marble Falls Youth Baseball-Softball Association, the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center, CASA for the Highland Lakes Area, A Place of Hope, the Hill Country 100 Club, and the list goes on. For a little fun on your part, you can help make a big difference in the lives of so many others.

The entry fee is $35 per pistol shooter and $65 per skeet shooter. It’s first come, first served on the shooting time slots, so call soon. The deadline is Aug. 5. For registration information, call Jeffrey Bartz at (830) 265-0850.

So maybe you can’t make the date or you don’t think you can shoot well enough to compete (or maybe you’re a rifle shooter.) Don’t fret. You can still get involved because the Marble Falls Day Break Rotarians are also looking for individuals and businesses that want to sponsor the event. Again, give Bartz a call to get information on sponsorships.

On the line is, of course, bragging rights, but the winners of the skeet shoot get to take home a large, traveling trophy. And the top three shooters in the tactical pistol match get gift cards.

Even if you aren’t one of the top shooters, you could still walk away with a nice guitar or shotgun thanks to the prize giveaway. The prizes include a Willie Nelson autographed guitar and a KelTec Bull-Pup 12-gauge shotgun with a 14-plus-one capacity and Trijicon Reflex RX30 sight.

Plus, with more than a month to go, it gives you one more thing: time to practice.
