COTTONWOOD SHORES — The Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department membership voted July 8 to change its dissolution clause in its charter as requested by the city council.

The Cottonwood Shores City Council asked the VFD to change the clause so, in case the fire department did dissolve, its assets would either go to the city or Burnet County. Under the previous clause, the assets would have gone to a local nonprofit called Cottonwood Pride, which doesn’t provide fire protection.

The VFD, however, changed the clause so, in case of dissolution, the assets will go to Burnet County.

The city council indicated that if the volunteer fire department didn’t change the clause, the city would begin negotiating with other local fire departments to provide Cottonwood Shores with fire protection and suppression services.
