BURNET — Hanging on her filing cabinet, just behind her desk, is a sign that sums up the role of Burnet Consolidated Independent School District administrative assistant Sharon Schwartz.

“I’m a school secretary,” it reads, “what’s your super power?”

Schwartz’s job is not limited to writing agendas, sending out information about the district to people and assisting Superintendent Keith McBurnett and other members of BCISD.

She also takes photos of sporting events, students and staff members who receive awards, goes to college signings, produces the BCISD newsletters and handles other duties too numerous to name.

For those reasons and more, Schwartz was chosen as the “Locals Love Us” favorite BCISD administrator by The Picayune readers. Look for a complete list of winners in an upcoming edition of The Picayune.

“I appreciate it and am humbled by it,” she said. “I love my job. I have a great group of people I work with, especially my boss.”

“Not only is she an outstanding assistant to me and to the board,” McBurnett said, “she takes on an entirely separate role for the community in public relations. She is so talented and has the skills to make everything relative. I don’t think people truly understand everything she does. She volunteers a lot. She has a tough time saying no.”

McBurnett is a big fan of Schwartz.

“Sharon is one of our best ambassadors because she is customer-oriented,” he said. “Every time you interact with Sharon, she makes you feel like the most important person in the room. She goes out of her way to serve.”

Schwartz is known to look for documents and other information if it’s requested, getting messages to members of the faculty and staff from citizens, and will make a point of attending gatherings and ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of the district.

“Without Sharon, so much of the effective communication we do would not be able to take place,” the superintendent said. “One of the key elements of success in an organization is communication. She allows us to be transparent and proactive. … I could not do the job I do without everything she does for me personally and for this organization. We are a better school district because of Sharon Schwartz.”
