Burnet County adopts tax rate, approves increase in budget

FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — The Burnet County Commissioners Court adopted a 2014 property tax rate that’s lower than the 2005 number.

The commissioners court voted 5-0 on Aug. 27 to set the tax rate at 39.51 cents per $100 valuation. The previous rate was 39.34 cents per $100 valuation.

In the same meeting, the commissioners adopted a 2013-2014 budget that calls for $23.9 million in expenditures. This is a 9.4 percent increase over the previous budget of $21.9 million.

When the new rate is applied to the value of an average home in Burnet County ($186,623), the county portion of a tax bill will be $722. The largest portion of the property owner’s tax bill would be for the local school district followed, typically, by the city (if inside a municipality).
