Meadowlakes man charged with defrauding 92-year-old widow

MEADOWLAKES — Burnet County authorities arrested a 59-year-old Meadowlakes man for allegedly possessing and using a 92-year-old widow’s identification and personal information to open several loans.

Burnet County Precinct 4 Constable Chris Jett arrested Carl Wilson Gammon on June 14 and booked the man into the Burnet County Jail on fraudulent use or possession of identifying information-elderly, a third-degree felony. Gammon was still being held in the jail as of June 19 in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit compiled by Burnet County Sheriff’s Office Deputy William Fritsch and signed by Burnet County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Ed Cutchin, the suspect allegedly obtained the woman’s credit card information, Social Security number and birth certificate information as well as two bank account numbers and routing data.

“The defendant has also taken out several online loans in the victim’s name using the victim’s identifying information, which has gone into collections, without the victim’s consent,” Fritsch wrote in the arrest warrant affidavit.

According to the document, the state adult protective service has also opened a case on the suspect.
