BURNET — When the final bell sounded at Shady Grove Elementary School on June 6, staff members and teachers left the campus for the last time with a number of emotions.

But the top two were gratefulness and optimism for the future.

Members of the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board voted to close the doors of the campus earlier this year. The reason is because the average daily attendance rate has dropped, which had left plenty of space at all four elementary schools.
