TxDOT outlines implosion procedures for old U.S. 281 bridge in Marble Falls
FROM STAFF REPORTS
MARBLE FALLS — Those making plans to watch the old U.S. 281 bridge implosion early March 17 should keep their ears open for signs the blast is near.
A Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson said horn blasts will be used to signal the coming implosion.
According to TxDOT, five horn blasts will signal a five-minute warning. At the one-minute warning, another horn will sound. A countdown will begin at 10 and go down to six. There will be radio silence from counts five to one, then the explosive charges will detonate.
The implosion is scheduled to be at about 8 a.m. Traffic will be stopped about 10 minutes before the blast and for another 10-15 minutes afterward in order to inspect the new bridge to determine its safety.
KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune will broadcast live from Lakeside Park 6-9 a.m. the morning of the implosion. On-air hosts Ed Chandler and Kay Baker will host KBEY’s Big Bang Bridge Party at the park, 307 Buena Vista Drive.
