Mistakes lead to district loss for Mustangs soccer team, coach says
AUSTIN — In 20 seconds, Leander Vandegrift turned a 2-1 lead into a blowout against the Marble Falls High boys soccer team Feb. 8.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, the Vipers scored twice, but the two goals came 20 seconds apart. And that was too much to recover, Mustangs head coach Michael Nave said.
“They’re a talented team,” he said. “But we gave them, probably, the minimum of three gifts. Both of those (early in the second half) were very preventable.”
Vandegrift took advantage of Mustang errors to build the lead, he said.
“They’re very, very fast, they’re athletic, they’re well-coached, they’re technically sound,” the coach said. “We can compete with that, but we got to have our best game. We can’t make mistakes and compete with that talented of a team.”
